There is little doubting who ranks as the leading sprinter in the current women's World Tour peloton. In the latest dominant display of her brilliance, Lorena Wiebes powered to victory at Le Samyn des Dames 2025 on Tuesday afternoon, winning by more than a bike length in the final sprint.
“It’s great to win in a sprint. It’s great to finish it off in this race. It’s a fun race. I enjoyed it. The course of the race was quite chaotic, which is always the case on Belgian roads,” reflected the 25-year-old European champion in her post-race interview afterwards, beaming with delight and having plenty of praise for her Team SD Worx - Protime teammates, despite entering the finale relatively alone.
"We always started in a good position on a cobblestone section. The team did very well. Unfortunately, we lost Elena Cecchini in a crash. We went to the final with one rider less, but my teammates were able to push me off well each time. I also tried to pull through on the cobblestones, since I had good legs,” Wiebes concludes her assessment. “I had good legs today. I felt ready for the sprint. I also like it when the finish is a bit uphill.”
"Absolutely no contest!"
