"The disappointment is really great" - Jonathan Milan sees his yellow dream disappear in Lille

Jonathan Milan was one of the men who were not happy after the opening stage of Tour de France. The reason is simple: the whole Lidl-Trek missed the decisive split in crosswinds and therefore the Italian sprinter could only show off his power in a battle for 39th place - not quite what he came for.

"The disappointment is really great, because it was an important objective for me and for the team," Milan shares his thoughts after the stage.

Underestimation. That's the only way Milan can explain this failure. "Honestly, we didn't expect the echelons in that spot and rightly so, they were pulling in front because Evenepoel was also left behind. We almost managed to close the gap, but unfortunately we didn't make it."

It's not the end of the world for the Italian as there are at least three more sprinter opportunities during the opening week, but the yellow dream is postponed for another year. "Will there be other possibilities? Of course, we'll try again the day after tomorrow, but the disappointment for the missed opportunity remains really great."
