Relegation battle update: Arkéa breaks the game in the Tro-Bro Léon with 4 riders in the top7. They have practically secured the promotion. Lotto is still on a roll and are getting closer and closer to BikeExchange, which is looking pretty bad.
Alpecin-Fenix have this week announced their application to World Tour status from 2023 onwards. This confirms the dangerous position of the lower World Tour teams, in which Team BikeExchange - Jayco are slowly falling into with the lack of points they've been scoring this season.
With the new UCI points update from Raúl Banqueri, it is possible to observe - as mentioned - that Arkéa Samsic has stormed away from the battle and is in a relatively safe position towards World Tour promotion. With Hugo Hofstetter's win at Tro-Bro Léon where the French team heavily scored points, they have risen to 12th place in the UCI points ranking, more than 2600 points ahead of Lotto Soudal.
On the opposite side of the spectrum, the lack of points Team BikeExchange - Jayco are scoring are having them on a dangerous position, now within range of a 1000 points of Lotto Soudal and Israel - Premier Tech who are slowly catching up to the Australian team. EF Education-EasyPost and Cofidis also remain on an unsafe position, but ahead of the teams mentioned above.
With the Giro d'Italia final results points to be added, changes are to be expected at the end of the month. However, from all these five teams only Cofidis' Guillaume Martin has gotten himself in the current Top10, as the likes of Simon Yates and Hugh Carthy have failed to resist the opening stages and are at the time being 15th and 24th in the overall classification.
