Tao Geoghegan Hart's move to Trek - Segafredo 'done deal'

The move has been in the making for a few months and it seems to be certain now. Although not officially announced, reports suggest that Tao Geoghegan Hart has already agreed with a transfer into Trek - Segafredo this winter.

The American team, which will be renamed Lidl-Trek soon ahead of the Tour de France, was on the hunt for a new overall classification rider and has found one. Giulio Ciccone has recently re-signed with the team all the way into 2027 and it is reported by Daniel Benson of GCN that the transfers is a done deal and will feature a 3-year contract, which will see the Briton stay until 2026.

Hart was a breakthrough winner of the 2020 Giro d'Italia, at the time winning a post-Covid race where he showed tremendous climbing ability. One which he struggled to replicate throughout the following years, the 28-year old largely missed out on the spotlight in both 2021 and 2022, but returned to his best level this spring.

Hart finished on the podium of the Volta a Comunitat Valenciana and Tirreno-Adriatico, before winning the Tour of the Alps alongside two stage wins ahead of the Giro d'Italia. There he seemed to be doing a perfect run, but he was one of the many victims of a brutal race - weather and illness wise, crashing out during stage 11 whilst sitting in third position, suffering a fracture in the femur which he is still recovering from.
