Tadej Pogacar to undergo surgery after suffering "fractures to the left scaphoid and lunate bones" in Liege-Bastogne-Liege crash

After his early crash at Liege-Bastogne-Liege, more information has now been revealed about the condition of pre-race favourite Tadej Pogacar.

The Slovenian, UAE Team Emirates leader has suffered "fractures to the left scaphoid and lunate bones" according to an official update and Pogacar will be required to undergo immediate surgery later this afternoon by a specialist surgeon in Genk.

Both Pogacar and Mikkel Honore crashed out of the race in the crash meaning cycling fans were denied a chance to see a battle between Pogacar and Remco Evenepoel for the first time this year and ruining Pogacar's chance of matching Demi Vollering and claiming a hat-trick of Ardennes Classic wins.
