The opening stage of the 2025 Tour de France is already taking victims from the peloton. After the early abandon of INEOS Grenadiers' Filippo Ganna on stage 1, fellow time trial specialist Stefan Bissegger has now also been forced to prematurely depart the race.
Like Ganna, Bissegger was caught up in a crash relatively early on in the day. The Swiss star of the Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale Team underwent some serious concussion checks at the roadside, and did eventually get back onto his back and back into the race. Around an hour or so later however, official confirmation has now arrived that Bissegger has sadly been unable to recover from his crash and has been forced to abandon the race before the end of the opening stage.
