Demi Vollering, Marlen Reusser, Anna van der Breggen
The women's European Championships time-trial will be taking place on the 1st of October, the opening day of the competition, and we take a look at the startlist which will include some big names. The time-trial will happen before the men's one, scheduled to start at 14:20CET and finish at 16:05CET.
Since the inaugural editions of the European Road Championships, the women’s time trial has consistently produced high-calibre winners from across the continent. In 2024, it was Lotte Kopecky (Belgium) who took the victory, ahead of Ellen van Dijk (Netherlands) and Christina Schweinberger (Austria). With Kopecky absent, we will have a new winner.
The race will take place in the Drôme-Ardèche region which is hosting the Europeans and often features courses that are rather hilly, however it can't be said that this will be the case in the time-trial, which will feature a hilltop finish but is in its grand majority a completely flat affair, well suited to the specialists and those who can sustain a high raw power for a long time.
Marlen Reusser won the World Championships and it is difficult to argue that the Swiss rider will be easy to beat in this course, as the climbs prove to be no challenge for her and on the flat roads she is as strong as any other in the peloton. We do not have many of the world's best time-trialists present, including Anna van der Breggen and DemI Vollering who joined her on the podium in Rwanda, Kopecky, American Chloé Dygert, under-23 World Champion Zoe Bäckstedt, last year's (world) dominator Grace Brown...
It shoudl come down to the likes of Britain's Anna Henderson, Austria's Christina Schweinberger or France's duo of Juliette Labous and Cédrine Kerbaol. Not many others will be within range of the podium.
