Alberto Bettiol has made his
ambitions for next season clear, he wants to return to his home race at the
Giro d’Italia. The 31 year old all rounded, who joined
Astana Qazaqstan Team
mid way through this
year.
Bettiol won the Giglio d'Oro prize
as the best Italian rider of the year, after he won the national championships
and Milan-Turin. Speaking after being given the award, Bettiol said, ''I'm
thinking of doing the
Giro d'Italia because I haven't been there for a couple
of years now.
"Honestly, the chance to wear
the
tricolore (national jersey) at the Giro is an even bigger
incentive.” The race starts in Tuscany, where Bettiol is from, giving him even
more incentive to pick up his first
Giro win since 2021, where he won a 200km
stage in Stradella.
"To win it as a Tuscan rider,
on a Tuscan circuit, was beautiful. Something that went beyond my
expectations," he said
"And then another of those
unique things, a dream, something that will never happen again, was also having
the Grand Depart of the Tour de France a few steps from where I was born, from
my home, and among so many fans. It was truly a great year, I hope to make more
and more great ones."
