Russian victory for Astana at the Tour of Turkey - Lev Gonov surprises with win despite being development team rider

XDS Astana Team really are punching above their weight this year, and this afternoon at the Tour of Turkey there has been another unexpected surprise. Russian track rider Lev Gonov has taken the biggest win of his career on stage 3.

Gonov was one of the riders that went on the attack throughout the hilly day that had a finale in the town of Marmaris, already a typical one in the race. It seemed as if a sprint wasn't going to happen when Giovanni Carboni distanced the peloton on the final climb, but a sizeable group still made it through and then chased back the Italian in the finale.

It came down to a sprint in the end where a lot of cyclocross riders were present and trying to seize the opportunity, but it was track specialist Gonov who was the fasted in the final meters. He beat Lander Loockx and Tibor del Grosso to the line.
