Bad weather is something the World Tour peloton has been facing quite a lot this spring, and the next unusual episode has happened today at the Tour of Hellas. Stage 3 was taking place as usual, until rain started falling heavily and riders looked for refuge in unlikely places.
With 46 kilometers to go the race was stopped and later cancelled due to the very bad weather conditions that were affecting the race. Heavy rain, followed by threats of a hailstorm. Riders were seen on the TV broadcast hiding underneath a car wash by the dozens, but also in local cafes that allowed the riders to get in to stay away from the rain.
XDS Astana's Harold Martin López will hence remain in the lead of the overall classification on a day where the sprinters were expected to fight for victory in Chelkida.
