The biggest surprise of
Paris-Roubaix may have just been
Stefan Bissegger. The Swiss timetrialist was for a long time in the mix for a top result and even though an ill-timed puncture took him out of battle for final podium, he still finished the race in a nice 7th place.
"I'm very tired! Everything was going well until Tadej Pogacar attacked and I got a puncture. The wheel change took a long time and I had to use the neutral recovery car, so I didn't have the basic equipment. It ruined my race a bit," said Bissegger afterwards.
The new acquisition of Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale was in the center of action on Sunday, never missing a beat. However in the finale, he found himself missing a tiny bit to follow key moves and thus sentenced to only fight for a top-10 result.
"In the final, Wout Van Aert attacked and I was just a little bit short of being able to follow and fight for 3rd place. It's a bit of a shame, but I'm still happy with my performance. The team worked very well for me, so it's nice to bring them back a top 10. We can build the future on that. Next year we'll aim even higher," he concludes.
