Results Vuelta a España 2026 stage 16 - Victory number six for Visma as Matthew Brennan sprints to victory once again

Stage 16 of the Vuelta a Espana has been won by Matthew Brennan. Team Visma | Lease a Bike continue their winning streak in Spain by winning yet another bunch sprint, with the leadout by Wout Van Aert.
The day was flat, without climbs and without wind to make the difference. The peloton could enjoy a calmer day, but one of the fastest in the whole race due to the stage's nature.
Kevin Vermaerke, Simon Dalby, Jasha Sutterlin, Roland Thalmann and Valentin Madouas formed the day's breakaway, carrying the stage at over 45Km/h. The quintet had to resist the commited chase by Team Visma | Lease a Bike, whilst Cofidis also offered a hand at making sure a bunch sprint wouldn't escape the clutches of the peloton.
The finale was not urban nor technical, and so the riders didn't have to take too many risks in the final kilometers. The peloton managed to reel the breakaway back in with still over 20 kilometers left in the stage. Everything was set for a bunch sprint amongst the best in this peloton.
Another Visma-dominated sprint
Wout Van Aert turned up the gas in the final meters at the right time, delivering Matthew Brennan to perfection in the slight uphill sprint. The Briton did not let the opportunity escape him, and sprinted to his fourth victory in the Spanish race. Bryan Coquard and Vito Braet sprinted to second and third on the day.

According to the listing here (which no-one so far has called out for being wrong or incomplete, I’m not going to check), by my calculations we are at 11200CHF after 15 stages, 8 of them had zero, there is only doubt about stages 8 and 11 but it won’t make much difference.
