Paul Magnier is literally unbeatable at the Tour of Guangxi and with the profiles simply appearing too similar to each other, the first four stages have seen the same rider take the win in the exact same circumstance, in a display of power rarely seen anywhere in pro cycling.
Stage 4 did provide some hilly terrain and the breakaway was not modest by any chance, featuring Stan Dewulf, Michael Valgren, Juan Pedro López, Simon Gugliemi, Logan Currie and Michael Leonard - a group of riders who would be able to put pressure on the peloton, who would have to take it easy on the climbs to maintain the sprinters in the group and not get dropped.
Dewulf was finally caught with 12 kilometers to go just ahead of the uphill intermediate sprint that marked the end of the stage, where Jhonatan Narváez went on to take the 3 seconds ahead of Paul Double and Anthon Charmig. Right after Visma's Niklas Behrens attacked but the peloton remained rather compact and the catch was made with 5 kilometers to go.
Then as had been the case in the previous days we've had a bunch sprint once again deciding the outcome, it didn't come as a surprise and Paul Magnier was once again the fastest on the day winning the sprint. He took the triumph directly ahead of Pavel Bittner and Jordi Meeus.
