Filippo D’Aiuto produced a perfectly timed late attack to win Stage 2 of the Settimana Internazionale Coppi e Bartali, going solo inside the final kilometres and holding off a fast-closing peloton into Massalengo.
The General Store - Essegibi - F.Lli Curia rider made his move shortly after the race had come back together following a series of splits, opening a gap of around 10 seconds that proved just enough to survive to the line. Matteo Moschetti led the chase home to take second place, with Tommaso Bessega completing the podium.

Late attack decides stage after breakaway is caught

The day had initially been shaped by a four-rider breakaway featuring Renato Favero, Kevin Pezzo Rosola, Andrea Cantoni and Marco Martini, who built an advantage of around four minutes through the first half of the stage.
That gap was steadily reduced as the peloton increased the tempo across the second half, with multiple teams contributing to the chase and bringing the move back inside the final 25 kilometres.
From there, the race became far more open. Attacks followed immediately after the catch, with several splits forming in the peloton and a small front group briefly emerging that included Axel Laurance, Mauro Schmid and Maximilian Schachmann among others. Despite those moves, the race ultimately reset in the closing kilometres, setting the stage for one final decisive attack.

D’Aiuto times move to perfection

D’Aiuto launched his move with just over five kilometres to go, attacking from the peloton and quickly gaining a small but crucial advantage.
The peloton responded behind, but the gap hovered around 10 to 12 seconds as the Italian pressed on alone into the final kilometre. Despite the margin beginning to fall on the run to the line, D’Aiuto held on to secure the stage victory, with the bunch arriving just seconds later.
Attention now turns to Stage 3, where the general classification is expected to come under greater pressure after two tightly controlled opening days.
