Tom Pidcock carried his remarkable late-season form straight back onto the road with a solo victory at the GP Industria & Artigianato 2026, just seven days after becoming mountain-bike world champion in Val di Sole.
The Pinarello Q36.5 Pro Cycling Team leader attacked inside the final 13 kilometres in Tuscany, bridged across to the riders ahead and then powered clear on the decisive Mungherino climb.
Pidcock reached the finish in Larciano 16 seconds ahead of Christian Scaroni, with Anthon Charmig taking third from the same chasing group.
It was Pidcock's fifth road victory of 2026 and his first since winning the Andorra MoraBanc Classica in June, extending a run that now carries directly from his second elite XCO world title into the final weeks before the Road World Championships in Montreal.
Pidcock takes control on Mungherino
The 196.4-kilometre race had initially been shaped by an early breakaway, with XDS Astana Team and Groupama - FDJ United among the teams gradually bringing the advantage down over the repeated ascents of San Baronto.
The race changed decisively on the final lap. A strong group featuring Ben O'Connor, Ion Izagirre, Charmig and Pidcock's teammate Quinten Hermans had moved clear ahead of the final Mungherino ascent, but their advantage was down to just 24 seconds with a little under 17 kilometres remaining.
Multiple attacks followed as the race approached the 6.2-kilometre climb at six per cent. Pidcock accelerated from the peloton with around 13 kilometres to go, reached the riders ahead and attacked again almost immediately. Hermans initially stayed with his team leader before Pidcock went clear alone.
With 10 kilometres remaining, his advantage was around 15 seconds over a chase containing O'Connor, Charmig, Hermans, Alessandro Fancellu, Scaroni, Mathys Rondel, Thomas Gachignard and Antonio Tiberi.
The pursuit began to fragment on the climb. At 7.7 kilometres to go, Fancellu, Scaroni and Tiberi were still 16 seconds behind, while O'Connor was beginning to lose contact.
Pidcock held the gap over the summit and through the descent before the chasing groups came back together behind him in the closing kilometres.
Scaroni attacked from that group inside the final 500 metres to secure second place, but Pidcock was already clear and crossed the line alone for victory. Charmig followed Scaroni home in third.

Rainbow form follows Pidcock back onto the road
The win came in Pidcock's first race since his extraordinary performance at the UCI Mountain Bike World Championships the previous Sunday. Starting from the fifth row in Val di Sole, he worked his way through the field before repeatedly attacking the leading specialists and eventually riding clear to claim his second elite XCO rainbow jersey. Seven days later, Pidcock has now added another victory on a completely different bike.
His 2026 road season already includes wins at Milano-Torino, the Andorra MoraBanc Classica and stages of the Vuelta a Andalucia and Tour of the Alps, alongside second place at Milano-Sanremo and ninth overall at the Tour de France.
The next phase takes him to Canada. Pidcock is scheduled to race the GP Quebec and GP Montreal before remaining in the country ahead of the Road World Championships later in September.
He heads there having won his last two races across two different disciplines: first the MTB world title in Val di Sole, and now GP Industria & Artigianato on the road.

- Unbelievably annoying! We in Villaviciosa de Córdoba were looking forward for some time, to the first Vuelta to go through our village (twice). Every business were setting up early, people parking first and settling into prime watching spots for the day. 3,000 locals alone. The temperature is no higher today than normal, so why bother having the tour this time of year. The new route eliminates the two Villaviciosa climbs, leaving the new route going down narrow country lanes. No room for a good pelaton and definitely no room for fans. - Not sure what he says adds up. No one on Astana is keeping up with Pog, MVDP, Wout, Remco, etc., so we are not missing any big showdown because they are chasing UCI points.
