A perfectly timed solo move and a faltering chase combined to deliver one of the most striking wins of the spring, as Paula Blasi powered to victory at the Amstel Gold Race Ladies 2026. The 23-year-old Spaniard crossed the line alone in Valkenburg after a bold late attack, holding off the chasing favourites despite a late surge behind.

Blasi times move to perfection

After a day defined by repeated attacks and hesitation among the favourites, the decisive move came when Blasi broke clear on the Cauberg alongside Nienke Vinke before pushing on alone.
What initially looked like another short-lived acceleration quickly became the move of the race. As the favourites behind failed to organise an immediate response, Blasi steadily extended her advantage, building a gap that would ultimately prove decisive.

Chase comes too late despite late aggression

Behind, the race remained locked in a tactical stalemate for much of the final lap, with teams slow to fully commit to the chase. FDJ-SUEZ had earlier taken responsibility through Elise Chabbey and Juliette Berthet, but their efforts faded in the closing stages, leaving Lidl-Trek to try and lift the pace.
By the time the urgency finally arrived, it was too late. On the final ascent of the Cauberg, Niewiadoma launched a sharp acceleration, with Vollering able to follow after a brief moment of hesitation. The pair quickly distanced the rest of the reduced group, but with Blasi already over the summit with a significant advantage, the move was only enough to reshape the podium battle.
The final kilometres saw the focus shift behind the leader, with Vollering and Niewiadoma locked together in pursuit of second place. Despite briefly reducing the gap, they were never able to bring Blasi back, and instead turned their attention to the sprint for the remaining podium positions.
In a tight finish, Niewiadoma just held off Vollering on the line to secure second, completing a podium defined by both late aggression and earlier hesitation.

A victory built on timing and conviction

Blasi’s win was not simply a product of strength, but of perfect timing. In a race where the favourites repeatedly marked each other and hesitated at key moments, she seized the initiative when it mattered most.
That combination of opportunism and execution proved decisive, delivering a breakthrough victory and a result that underlines the unpredictable nature of the Amstel Gold Race. On a day where the biggest names cancelled each other out, it was Blasi who rode clear — and never looked back.
