As is usual, the Chrono des Nations provides a final opportunity in the season for the World Champion to show off his jersey. Remco Evenepoel has already debuted it as the Worlds came early this year, but will race the French race.
After a packed preparation period which included wins at the time-trial Worlds and Clásica San Sebastián, Evenepoel suffered a bad day at the Vuelta a Espana which took down his overall classification aspirations. There was no recovering from that, but he did do the next best thing, winning two more mountain stages and the KOM classification afterwards.
Racing wise his season is not complete yet however, the Belgian will race Il Lombardia where he is expected to meet Tadej Pogacar and Primoz Roglic, and will most likely end his season the following weekend at the Chrono des Nations.
Last year Stefan Küng was the winner in France, however this year Evenepoel will be facing the new European Champion and time-trialing supertalent Joshua Tarling.
