Without a doubt,
Puck Pieterse can be proud of her spring campaign. After completing 11 races (and not just
some races!), she is yet to finish outside of a top-10. Today's 2nd place at
Liege-Bastogne-Liege Femmes may be a bit bittersweet, but Pieterse admits that victory simply wasn't within her reach.
"I can live with it, you know. But in one week it went from 'yes, I'm third in the Amstel' to 'ah, shit, I'm second in Liege'",
she laughs about her progress in front of the
WielerFlits camera.
"But that's nothing to be ashamed of. I gave it my all today. Every sprint is different, but I knew that Kim Le Court was probably the fastest, so I got on her wheel. I just couldn't get out of it."
According to Pieterse, winning would only have been possible if Kim Le Court had been dropped on the last climb. According to her, that was possible, but no realizable. "Maybe if we had kept up the pace a bit more there, then the two or three of us would have been away. But Kim made the crossing very cleverly, that has to be said."
How does the
Fenix-Deceuninck rider look back at the first months of 2025? "I got through the spring very well and I notice that my form is only getting better," Pieterse concludes after she has just completed a 'Tour of Podium' with 3rd place at Amstel, victory at Fleche Wallonne, and finally today's 2nd place in Liege.
