Looking at past seasons, this spring was relatively dry for
Lotte Kopecky who
only won the Tour of Flanders.
Liege-Bastogne-Liege Femmes was an opportunity to give the campaign a sweet ending, but the SD Worx - Protime rider frankly missed a bit to tag along with the winning group.
"I rode a pretty good race," said Kopecky, who sprinted loosely to fifth place, at
Sporza among others afterwards. She had to let the top four go on the false flat that comes right after riders crest the steep Roche-aux-Faucons. "That last part... It's a stupid part of a kilometer where I lose the race."
"In itself I didn't feel bad and the first part of the Roche-aux-Faucons was good, but after that I had to let go of the front. There were four of us left at the top. That's no shame. I was still hoping for a comeback and Anna (van der Breggen) had done a perfect job by anticipating, but unfortunately she was caught back before the top."
Is this a disappointment for Kopecky or not? "If I look at how my winter went, I have to be happy with my victory in the Tour of Flanders," she said, a bit mysteriously. "I felt myself getting better week after week and that's something I'm taking a stand on. Yes, I think I can win here one day. After today I'll let everything sink in and then I'll start my preparation for the Tour with full enthusiasm."
