"My legs are still screaming" - Kim Le Court makes history as first African Monument winner at Liege-Bastogne-Liege Femmes 2025

History was made at Liege-Bastogne-Liege Femmes 2025 on Sunday afternoon in the Ardennes as AG insurance - Soudal's Kim Le Court became the first African winner of a Monument, outsprinting Puck Pieterse, Demi Vollering and Cedrine Kerbaol in a dramatic four-woman sprint for victory at the finish line.

“I don’t have words. I suffered a bit with my breathing, I couldn’t breathe,” reflected the 29-year-old Mauritian national champion in her post-race interview afterwards, still somewhat in disbelief at what she had just achieved. “I was dropped a couple of times. I just wanted to come back to the group, I tried everything I could to come back. You have to never give up, that’s what we proved today. I had the legs today on the Roche au Faucons, so it was fantastic."

Having only started to fully focus on road racing over the last couple of years, Le Court has taken big wins in the past, most notably a stage of the Giro d'Italia in 2024, but this Monument win is surely the biggest of her road career so far. “I kept the rhythm, I kept also confidence in myself. I tried to save a bit of energy for the sprint. I tried to bridge the gap with Puck and Demi," she concludes her assessment. "In the last 5 kilometres cramps were coming. My legs are still screaming at me. I tried to get the sprint from second position. I just went all out, I did everything I could. It was incredible.”
