Those who closely follow the junior races must have already encountered the name Jasper Schoofs this year. The ACROG-Tormans rider has scored multiple top results at cobbled classics in spring and that's also where the young Belgian feels his future lies.
In his first year in the junior category, Schoofs kept a rather low profile despite his success at smaller competitions. At the start of the year, Schoofs arrived fourth at Pevele Classic, a non-UCI junior race that features Paris-Roubaix sectors. Three weeks later, the Belgian claimed his first UCI win at Spanish Gipuzkoa Klasikoa, where he also arrived fourth overall. Spain has been more than welcome to Schoofs who has also won the overall of hard Vuelta al Besaya in June.
It is worth noting that Schoofs is also a formidable timetrialist. The young rider became regional Antwerpian Champion before arriving runner-up at National Championships in the disciple in just his first year.
However Schoofs' 2023 fade in comparison to his impressive start as second year. In his second time at Pevele classic, Schoofs didn't come to mess around and together with his team dominated the cobbled race with a podium sweep. The victory was up in the air also at Paris-Roubaix Juniors where he arrived 6th. Adding a strong kick to his list of abilities, Schoofs also fared well in a bunch sprint at E3 Saxo Classic where third was the maximum possible.
It only makes sense Soudal - Quick-Step was well aware of the steps of the talented Belgian and, after his latest exploits, there was no need to wait anymore to pen a deal with the 18-year-old Schoofs to join their development team for next two years.
"I am really proud to be joining the Soudal - Quick-Step Devo Team. I have some goals for the next two years that I am looking to achieve but I also want to be the best version of myself and take the next steps in my career," said Schoofs
