It was rumoured already for a while and now it's official: Jefferson Alveiro Cepeda is a new Movistar Team rider. The Ecuadorian rider has signed for two seasons with the Spanish team after having performed at a high level in recent seasons in Caja Rural - Seguros RGA.

He is the fifth signing of the team sponsored by Movistar. Born in Quito in 1996, comes from a great year 2024, the best of his professional career, finishing fourth in O Gran Camiño in a race won by Jonas Vingegaard and was fifth in the Brabantse Pijl. He was also fourth at the Vuelta a Andalusia which was cut down only to the time-trial; finished sixth at the Vuelta a Burgos; won the Tour de Qinghai Lake and won a stage at the Tour du Limousin. He formed a great pair with Orluis Aular in the ProTeam, who will also be his colleague now in Movistar Team.

Happy to join Movistar

He is delighted, as it could not be otherwise, to land in his new team where he should have a supporting/free role in the Grand Tours, but likely freedom in some races as well: "Movistar Team is a team that I have always liked and I'm happy that now I will be part of it. I know some people who are in this set and I think that's good to adapt faster and be able to contribute with mine to achieve goals together."

He confesses to have worked hard to be able to finish in the highest category of world cycling: "Being part of a WorldTour team was always the goal for which I traveled to Europe. I have worked very hard, year after year, to improve and achieve it. This season I was able to be very regular and have a good level; therefore, I was given this opportunity that is a step in my professional career that I will try to make the most of".

He is grateful to Caja Rural, the team that signed him in 2019 and gave way for his European dream: "After these years in Caja Rural, with whom I am very grateful for giving me the opportunity to reach professional cycling and grow with them, I feel that I am ready to discover new races and new challenges".
