The Tour de France presentation is taking place this morning and directly from Paris comes the route of the 2026 edition which will feature two summit finishes at the Alpe d'Huez to finish off the race before heading to Paris. All of the stage starts and finales have been confirmed!
As had been made official long ago already, the Grand Depart will take place in Barcelona with a team time trial, which will then give away immediately to a hilly stage with a circuit finale in Barcelona once again, this time around on the famous Alto de Montjuic right by the Olympic stadium. The race leaves Spain on stage 3 heading towards the Pyrenees right away with a hilltop finish at Les Angles after departing from Granollers.
In the Pyrenees there will be a hilly stage with finale in Foix after some climbing whilst the arrival in Pau the next day will be the first day for the sprinters. Stage 6, also still within the mountain range, should see the first real summit finish of the race in Gavarnie-Gedré which will come after an ascent of the Col du Tourmalet.
The rest of the first week of the race will fit the sprinters, with flat stages into Bordeaux, Bergerac and Ussel. Week 2 begins with a hilly day in the Massif Central with a hilly stage into Le Lioran, one of the routes that had been rumoured for the longest time. Stages 11, 12 and 13 will have flat finishes into Nevers, Chalôn-sur-Saône and Belfort, although stage 12 provides chances for a breakaway to succeed with some climbs during the day.
Stage 14 sees the riders head into the Vosges for a summit finish at Le Markstein after several difficult climbs, an interesting mountain day on the eve of the arrival to the Alps. This will come on the final stage of the second week with a summit finish to the Plateau de Solaison, one of the hardest in the race.
Stage 16 sees the start of the final week with a time trial from Evian-les-Bains to Thonon-les-Bains, stage 17 is a hilly day from Chambery to Voiron whilst stage 18 features a summit finish into Oriceres-Merlette. However, stages 19 and 20 will both finish atop Alpe d'Huez, marking the grand highlight of the 2026 edition, in very different ways however as stage 19 features the entire ascent after a short stage and the latter is a mountain marathon with the ascent to the ski station via de Col de la Sarenne. Stage 21 will be in Paris with the Montmarte circuit being featured after this year's success.
