Carlos Canal claimed the biggest win of his career on Stage 2 of O Gran Camiño 2026, sprinting to victory from a reduced front group after a chaotic finale that also reshaped the general classification.
The initial move featured eight riders, with standouts Sinuhé Fernández of Burgos, Tomas Contte of Aviludo and Danny van der Tuuk of Euskaltel, who built a maximum gap of four minutes. The rough side of the mid-stage fell on Team Kern, which lost its chances after a heavy crash involving Iván Ramiro Sosa and Mikel Retegi, compounded by an ill-timed mechanical for Diego Uriarte.
The closing sequence toward San Cosme de Barreiros and the Alto de Noceda turned into a powder keg that proved tactically tricky for many teams. UAE Team could not match the engine of Iván Romeo, who made amends for his double puncture the day before.
Inside the final three thousand metres, the tireless Nelson Oliveira launched a solo flyer that forced a full-gas reaction from the bunch, laying perfect groundwork for a group sprint.
Burgos tried to deliver Jesús Herrada under the flamme rouge, but destiny had already aligned for Carlos Canal to sign an unforgettable victory.
