Jorgen Nordhagen delivered a
standout performance on Stage 4 of the
Tour de Romandie, finishing eighth on a
demanding summit finish won by France’s Lenny Martinez. It marks another
impressive display from the young Norwegian, reinforcing his potential as one
of the sport’s rising climbers.
The final climb of the day saw the peloton split quickly as
the pace ramped up. While many riders were dropped early, Nordhagen stayed with
the leading group of favourites well into the ascent. Only in the final seven
kilometres did the 20-year-old lose contact, as the already-reduced group
surged ahead in the race for stage victory.
Team sports director Maarten Wynants was full of praise for
the performance, “We’ve achieved a really strong result,"
he said in a
team press release. “Of course, we were hoping Jørgen would deliver a good
performance today, but finishing eighth in such a strong field is really
impressive—especially considering he wasn’t feeling great the past few days.
It’s truly a result to be proud of.”
The result comes in what has already been a promising week
for the young Visma squad, which claimed a stage win earlier in the race and
has been visible throughout.
“With this very young squad, we managed to win a stage and
showed ourselves every day. It’s great to see how well the guys are developing
and making their mark in the WorldTour. This group definitely has a lot of
potential.”
