Kasper Asgreen will not participate at the Tour de France this year. The Dane has been told by his team Soudal - Quick-Step that he has not been selected for the Grande Boucle this year. He confirmed the news to the Danish TV2 after the National championships, where Asgreen finished second in the road race.
The 29-year-old rider did not want to elaborate on why he was not selected, but indicated that he was given a reason by his team. The selection of the Belgian formation this year will mainly revolve around Remco Evenepoel's ranking and apparently there wasn't spot for the Dane anymore.
Last year, the former Tour of Flanders champion found success in 18th stage of the Tour. Asgreen won the transition stage with arrival to Bourg-en-Bresse by beating his fellow escapees in a sprint of four. He also finished second in a stage on the very next day. At the Danish championship he had to admit his superiority to Rasmus Pedersen of Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale Development Team in road race and lost to Mattias Skjelmose in the time trial.
