Ivan Romeo has started the new season in style. The 21-year-old rider has already won a race with Movistar. In addition, he has shone at the UAE Tour as the best young rider of the race.

At the moment, few Spanish cyclists are as exciting for the future as Romeo. The U23 world time trial champion has very rare physical qualities. At Volta a Comunitat Valenciana and the aforementioned UAE Tour he has shown that there's a lot of depth to the qualities of this promising youngster.

In the new Movistar Team program, called 'Viento de cara', Iván Romeo starred alongside Pelayo Sánchez in a conversation between the two teammates. Both talked about their beginnings, what they remember of their first races with the telephone team, and their goals for the future.

At one point in the conversation, Pelayo asked Romeo about the gold he won at last year's U23 World Time Trial. This prompted the latter to reveal his big dream for this season:

"My dream is to be elite world champion against the clock," says the 21-year-old rider. "The statistics say it's going to be very complicated, but we have to try."

Remco Evenepoel, the beast to beat

To win the Time Trial in Rwanda 2025, Iván Romeo will have to take on the world's greatest specialist in the discipline: Remco Evenepoel.

The Belgian has won the last two editions of the World Championships. He is also the reigning Olympic champion and won the European time trial title in 2019, in his first participation.

For now, Evenepoel is recovering from a crash he suffered while training in December. The Soudal - Quick-Step star aims to return in April. His main goal will be to fight the Tour de France against Pogacar and Vingegaard. But after that, he will go all out to defend his world time trial champion title for the third year in a row. Can Iván Romeo take it away from him?

Statistics say very complicated, is that before or after considering Remco’s setback? In any case, going for it will probably be a good base for maybe winning some other year. No need to force dreams.
