“My decision not to ride the World Championship is firm" maintains Matej Mohoric despite excellent form at the Tour de Pologne

Matej Mohoric has been in excellent form over the last few weeks and could have been considered a dark horse for the Rainbow Jersey at the World Championship. Sadly for fans of the Bahrain - Victorious rider however, he will not be present in Glasgow.

"No, I'm really not going to the World Championship," the 28-year-old Slovenian, who currently leads the overall classification at the Tour de Pologne, winning stage 2 and finishing second on stage 3, in a post-stage interview with Wielerflits. “The level there will be much higher than in this race, although the level here in Poland is already high in the WorldTour."

“The World Championship is the most important race on the calendar, but most of the big names who ride here come from altitude training and are mainly preparing for the Vuelta. Only a few riders have brought good legs from the Tour. That does make a difference,” Mohoric analyses. “My decision not to ride the World Championship is firm, because after the Tour de Polonge, I will focus on the Renewi Tour. That is also in two weeks."

Finishing second behind Rafal Majka on stage 3, Mohoric now leads the general classification by 10 seconds. Does he believe he can keep the lead for the rest of the race? “On paper, I think ten seconds is not enough in the standings. There will be another chance to win a ride and grab bonuses on Wednesday. We will fight for that first. Then I will give everything in the time trial.”
