Mikel Landa has decided on his main goals for the 2024 season. The Basque climber will start his season in Portugal, support Remco Evenepoel at the Tour de France, and hunt his own results at the Vuelta a Espana.
“We have already broadly mapped out my program. I will support Remco Evenepoel in the Tour de France and then I hope to be able to compete in the Vuelta a España," Mikel Landa shared with Ciclo 21. After the team's training camp in eastern Spain, the decision was taken for Evenepoel to fully focus on the Tour de France as his sole Grand Tour of the season. It was a logical step, and the Belgian will have the support of Mikel Landa who was Soudal - Quick-Step's brightest signing of the winter.
Landa will be of key support in the mountains, as Evenepoel is set to battle against unimaginably strong lineups from UAE Team Emirates and Team Visma | Lease a Bike. The Basque rider shared that he will start his season at the Volta ao Algarve, a route that doesn't suit him but he will be using the five days of racing to improve his form towards the spring.
“There is a very good atmosphere. Everything is there and it is all arranged very professionally. I am very excited because it is a new challenge. That is motivating.” His schedule for the spring in the meantime is still yet to be decided.
