Miguel Ángel López "didn't have many options to win" but finalized season on a high at Giro del Veneto

Miguel Ángel López has had a long season with many ups and downs, and that was concluded today at the Giro del Veneto. The Colombian rode to fourth place after an aggressive race, to wrap off the year.

“It was a fast and hard day overall. There was full riding all day, there was no time to recover. However, I felt pretty good and I'm happy to be able to fight for a good result," López said in a post-race interview. The race was not mountainous to his style, but the final hills around Vicenza saw the Astana Qazaqstan Team rider on the attack.

López looked to make the difference in the final climb, but has found strong responses. Eventually a group of five riders stayed away from the rest of the pack, in which López still gave it a shot for the win.

"Since there were no more climbs in the absolute final phase, I didn't have many options to win," he admitted. He still launched a move inside the final two kilometers, but Matteo Trentin had comfortable control over the group, and whilst López rode into fourth place on the road, the Italian took the win in the final sprint.
