Remco Evenepoel has had a major hit to his 2025 season when in early December a postal van driver opened the vehicle door and he collided with it, suffering several fractures and losing months of training. As it turns out it was not the only occasion the Olympic Champion has had issues with mail-related personnel, as it was revealed that he recently was robbed of a whole €9000 by a local postman.
Evenepoel suffered fractures to his rib, shoulder blade and hand, along with a dislocated collarbone and lung contusions after his accident on the 9th of December. At the time being he's been given the green light to return to cycling indoors, but his healing process is very much still underway and he is not yet allowed to train outside on the road. He stands on a very narrow rope, with the best possible outcome being a return to competition in mid-April.
However, it is very possible that this could be delayed, or that he will suffer issues in the future due to the serious injuries he sustained. The Soudal - Quick-Step rider, as it turns out, was victim of stealing by a postman in the city of Anderlecht. The credit card and codes of several people were taken, and as irony would have it, Evenepoel was one of those involved.
The report from
De Telegraaf details that this person was most likely taking credit cards from the mail of it's victims, and later withdrawing money using them. After this person was tracked down, it was discovered that in her residence were many other cards, including one belonging to Eveepoel who is said to have had €9000 withdrawn from a company account in which he was a shareholder. In total, the robber had taken almost €20.000 in order to finance a gambling addiction and would later throw away the cards. On the 27th of February most likely there will be a decision on the likely prison sentence.
"Something is rotten in the post of Belgium. That one may smile and smile and be a villain." Shakespeare (or similar, ahahah).
Seriously, Remco can't catch a break! He must be one of the unluckiest pro riders.
Well, depends how you define unlucky, is it just one thing, repeating situations, not winning, crashing or facts of life?
Bar repeat crashers like Kruiswijk, Gesink, Rogliç, etc. or those made to fall by others, I would say the unluckiest of all is Mrs Dennis (think she was a pro), but the most incredible is Eugene Christophe, everyone should know about this guy, puts todays pros in the shade.
I think he even has an article dedicated to him as the most unlucky rider ever.
Always wondered why some banks and the like are so easy about sending cards and codes by the same method, this was bound to happen once the right postman figured out how to recognise the code envelope.
Agreed it is careless. The code they send is to activate the card and tie it to the account. You then create a pin number to use the card. Without access to the account you can't use the card. There is something else that this crook knows on how to manipulate the system.
