Louis Meintjes: "I’m proud that I tried everything until the last moment to finish in the top ten of the general classification of this Vuelta,”

Intermarché–Wanty–Gobert rider Louis Meintjes concluded the Vuelta a Espana with one stage victory and 11th in the general classification.

“I’m proud that I tried everything until the last moment to finish in the top ten of the general classification of this Vuelta,” said Meintjes. He aimed at aggressive attacks from the start, in Tour de France also he used the same strategery to capture a silver but only in Vuelta a Espana he took his first stage win in a grand tour.“Just like in the Tour de France, I participated in the GC battle in an offensive way by going into breakaways. This resulted in a second place on Alpe d’Huez in July and a victory on Les Praeres two weeks ago, among others,” said Meintjes.

Although being a climber, he could not perform well in the flat final stage. He is looking forward to a well-deserved rest before focusing on his next venture. “Even today, I made serious efforts to stay concentrated. I’m looking forward to a well-deserved rest period now. In the next days, I’ll probably fully realize what I achieved. Not only in this Vuelta, because there have been so many nice moments this season,” concluded Meintjes.
