The
GP de Montréal concluded with
Tadej Pogacar’s victory. Groupama-FDJ rider
David Gaudu could not beat Pogacar and
Wout Van Aert and finished in fifth place.
He also raced in GP de Quebec, in which he secured the 42nd position, but he believes, "The GP de Montréal has a harder course than the course than the
GP de Québec.” He continues, “We knew that we would have a better chance to perform. In my head, only the last lap counted. I was focused on that. I managed my climb, and I was able to switch to the four other contenders. I tried to make the difference with a first attack, but in the end, we came to a sprint. I see Wout van Aert and Tadej Pogacar turn around at the same time, and I say to myself: why not.”
Despite his best efforts, he was unable to stop Pogacar from crossing the finish line first. “I went for it. I've already finished third in Liège-Bastogne-Liège and what I want to do is to win a WorldTour classic. If I had surprised them, maybe I could have won,” said Gaudu.
However, he is not disappointed by the outcome. Giro de Lombardia will once again provide him with the opportunity to prove himself. “It didn't work out, but I have no regrets. I'm going to continue calmly and look forward to the Giro de Lombardia, which is very important to me at the end of the season, which is close to my heart at the end of the season,” concluded Gaudu.
