The cycling transfer market is in full flow as riders seeking a new contract assess their options and hope that their spring results can trigger offers before announcements are made later this season. According to reports, Jordi Meeus is the latest to be on the move as he's set to leave Red Bull - BORA Hansgrohe for a surprise move.
The 27-year-old's contract expires with Red Bull - BORA Hansgrohe at the end of this season, and with a palmares that includes a Champs-Élysées Tour de France victory and versatility to compete in spring classics, Meeus is a hot property. Meeus joined the German team in 2021 and the move will represent his first transfer as a WorldTour rider.
The German sprinter is close to signing a deal with Lidl-Trek after turning down an offer to stay at his current team, HLN reports. Lidl-Trek have seemingly won the race for Meeus' signature as they bid to strengthen their spring classics squad.

Soudal - Quickstep among other teams interested in Meeus signing

It's reported that Soudal - Quickstep inquired about Meeus, but ultimately stepped away with sprint options such as Tim Merlier and Paul Magnier leaving no shortage in that department. Lotto Intermarche were also among those interested as Arnaud De Lie looks set to leave the team.
But reports now indicate that Lidl-Trek will be Meeus' destination, meaning he'll join Mads Pedersen and Jonathan Milan as the fast men within the squad. The move will also raise questions on how he will fit into the structure, with Pedersen and Milan important riders in targeting major races already.
The German's classic capabilities are likely to see him become a key man - with top results in his career including third in Gent-Wevelgem and eighth in Paris-Roubaix. Meeus has also picked up victories in one day classics such as Paris-Bourges, the Primus Classic, the Circuit de Wallonie, Copenhagen Sprint, Binche-Chimay-Binche, and the Ename Samyn Classic.
