2021 was the only year where Julian Alaphilippe rode the Omloop het Nieuwsblad, albeit to a modest result. With the Tour of Flanders in his sights for later in the spring, the Frenchman returns to the Opening Weekend this season.
Alaphilippe confirmed to Wielerflits that the cobbled classic, the first at World Tour level, is in his schedule. It's unknown if he will be racing Kuurne - Bruxelles - Kuurne the following day, however he could be a contender for Omloop where the Muur de Geraardsbergen-Bosber combination is often decisive.
The Soudal - Quick-Step rider is currently in Australia with a few teammates where he will begin his season. Alongside Omloop Het Nieuwsblad, he should be a leader and look to perform at Strade Bianche, Milano-Sanremo and the Tour of Flanders.
