Lidl–Trek has confirmed that
Jonathan Milan will make his
highly anticipated debut at the
Tour de France in 2025. The 24-year-old Italian
sprinter from Tolmezzo has established himself as one of the fastest men in the
world and will now showcase his talents on the sport’s grandest stage.
Milan’s rise to prominence began on the track, where he won
Olympic gold in the team pursuit at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. He followed this
success with two world championship titles, earning gold in the team pursuit in
2021 and the individual pursuit in 2024. His natural talent and explosive speed
have since translated seamlessly to road cycling.
On the road, Milan has already amassed an impressive
palmarès. In both the 2023 and 2024 editions of the Giro d’Italia, he claimed
the sprint classification, solidifying his reputation as a dominant force in
the fast finishes. Over the two years, he secured four stage victories at the
Giro, further showcasing his capabilities.
Now, Milan will have the chance to test himself against the
best sprinters in the world at the 2025 Tour de France. Among his primary
rivals will be 2023 green jersey winner Jasper Philipsen and 2024 green jersey
winner Biniam Girmay, setting the stage for an epic three-way battle for the
points classification.
A showdown between Milan, Philipsen, and Girmay is exactly
what cycling fans are hoping for, and those 2 have been head and shoulders above the rest in the last two editions of the Tour. The question on everyone’s mind:
who is truly
the fastest sprinter in the world? With his Lidl – Trek team backing him, Milan will have every
opportunity to stake his claim for the green jersey and prove himself among the
elite sprinters. July can’t come soon enough. Bring on Jonathan Milan at the
Tour de France, we can’t wait to see how he does.
