Jonas Vingegaard reveals he suffered concussion at Paris-Nice crash: "On Thursday I cycled for the first time again"

Jonas Vingegaard was the headliner of Paris-Nice and the race leader when on stage 5 he hit the ground in a low-speed fall. At first it looked inconsequential, but as it turns out the Danish rider not only suffered a hand injury but also a concussion.
"After the crash I was dizzy, but after finishing the stage I also felt nauseous and incredibly tired. And that remained the case for the days after,' Vingegaard said in an interview with BT. "The recovery from the concussion took longer than I had hoped, because I needed a lot of rest".
"I was already really disappointed that I had to leave Paris-Nice, because I felt that I could have kept the leader's jersey until Nice. The fact that I also have to miss the Volta a Catalunya makes it even more unfortunate. I was really looking forward to that race".

The Dane has for the second year in a row experienced a difficult crash that derails his plans for the spring races. Whilst it's not expected that this will be a direct setback to the Tour de France, it is a major setback for the upcoming months and can prevent him from taking the necessary next step to reach the level of Tadej Pogacar.
For now though, the day where Catalunya starts, the Dane is still slowly beginning to build up after spending nine days off the bike. "At the moment we are taking it day by day and let the rehabilitation determine whether we need to make further changes or additions to my program. On Thursday I cycled for the first time again, but I am still taking it easy. Although I am happy that I can cycle again," he concluded. His next planned race is the Criterium du Dauphiné, but he could realistically make a return to racing in April.

- The finale of this race was an absolute mess, and the last crash that took out 1/2 of the field was caused when a double width road very suddenly funneled into a single lane, and riders had nowhere to go. I find it amazing how some of these courses get approved in the first place. So much for the UCI's campaign for improved rider safety, because if they actually cared, the organizers wouldn't have been allowed to run the finale on this parcours.
santiagobenites26-03-2025 - I hope Wout can come back. He has had 3 terrible crashes--not on par with Froome or Bernal, but at his level just a fraction of a percent is all that separates the grand champions of this new generation. Even if he is back all the way physically, those abrupt confrontations with pavement and mortality take a psychic toll, especially for a father of young kids.

- Sacrificing E3 and G-W that were planned seems like he was hedging his options and only decided to do it after not winning MSR. - The MTB World title - there is no such thing. However, there are World titles in XCC, XCO, XCM, XCE, Enduro, Downhill......... He's after the World title in XCO, but could probably win the XCC title too, as his record is still better than anybody else, and he hasn't ridden an XCC World Cup since May 2021. Ten wins from twelve races says it all..... However, the XCO course is Crans-Montana is technical - he will surely need plenty of time back on the MTB, both training, and racing, otherwise it's going to be another doomed ambition.wipperman9526-03-2025

- well, paris-roubaix isn’t hilly AT ALL. it’s flat. the obstacle isn’t the hills it’s the cobbles, and what i’ve gathered over the years is that it’s almost impossible to imagine the beating that the body takes riding that course at race pace.OCexile26-03-2025
