Jonas Vingegaard is satisfied with how first stage went: "We wanted to win, but you can't win every day"

Just half an hour after the finish of the first stage of the Tour de France, we only saw satisfied faces on the Jumbo-Visma team bus. The Dutch team was unable to bring back Yates twins in the end, but that doesn't bother Jonas Vingegaard in the slightest as he confirms in a quick post-race interview.

Vingegaard wished to quickly go to his hotel room for the necessary rest, but gave a short response. "I have to thank the boys. They were all super strong."

"We are especially happy that we made it through the day in one piece, because I heard there was a big crash," he referred to the crash of outsiders Richard Carapaz and Enric Mas. Mas abandoned the race while Carapaz finished fifteen minutes back and was later confirmed to not start the second stage.

"We wanted to win, but you can't win every day," Vingegaard summarized the atmosphere at Jumbo-Visma. The fact that Tadej Pogacar also took four seconds did not worry last year's Tour winner. "I'm not worried about those four seconds, the Tour will not be decided in four seconds."
