One of the most impressive riders of the 2023 Tour de France, Carlos Rodriguez announced him as a potential Grand Tour winner of the future on stage 14 where he stunned Tadej Pogacar and Jonas Vingegaard to win the day.
"The Tour de France is the race I always wanted to do, the one I was always watching on TV," the INEOS Grenadiers star recently said on the podcast of his teammate, Geraint Thomas. "To be able to be there and especially winning a stage was incredible."
With Tadej Pogacar and Jonas Vingegaard seemingly heading towards a two-up sprint, Rodriguez got back into contact on the descent towards the line and flew past both of the Tour de France champions. "The stage victory in Morzine, was really incredible. Vingegaard and Pogacar looked at each other and I was able to survive on the flat along after the descent."
Finally, Rodriguez shared a kind word for his teammate-turned-podcast host, Thomas. "He is an example to many," he says of the Welshman. "He has been at the top for so long and never gives up. Just look at the last Giro d'Italia."
