Nairo Quintana tests positive for Covid-19 and sees Giro d'Italia plans disrupted: "I finished the Tour Colombia very sick"

Nairo Quintana disappointed in the recent Tour Colombia with a more than discreet performance far behind the men who fought for the general classification. Now it is revealed that the Movistar Team rider has tested positive for Covid-19 and will have to miss his next race in Europe.

The Spanish team has announced that Nairo will not race O Gran Camiño, the race that was going to be his return to European roads after spending 2023 in blank. Nairo himself commented in a video that he tested positive in COVID 19:

"I have not been able to go out to train, finished the Tour Colombia very sick, I felt quite bad, I had caught a flu, when I got home I have tested positive for COVID, I have tested positive, now at home quiet, the return to Europe is delayed until the coronavirus goes away, I can not do Camiño."

The virus has not only prevented the Colombian from performing at the level he hoped for in his home race, but also disrupts his preparation for the Giro d'Italia. After Gran Camiño, Quintana was hopeful of racing the Volta a Catalunya and Itzulia Basque Country. His European season should start at the first however, and perhaps lacking the top form he aims for.
