Last Saturday, the news that
Egan Bernal is aiming to be the leader of
INEOS Grenadiers for the
Giro d'Italia 2025 was broken. It now seems that the former Tour de France and Giro winning Colombian will have support from one of the best time-trialists on the planet in his quest to get back to Grand Tour winning ways.
Along with the goal of seeing Bernal shine again in a grand tour, next season's Giro d'Italia continues to take shape for INEOS. As revealed by the respected La Gazzetta dello Sport journalist
Ciro Scognamiglio in his latest report, former European time trial champion
Joshua Tarling is set for a Giro d'Italia debut in the coming year.
According to our sources, Giro d'Italia 2025 participation is a strong option on the table for Egan Bernal, winner of 2021 edition," Scognamiglio says on his official X account. "For INEOS Grenadiers, also Joshua Tarling is likely to compete in next Giro d'Italia edition."
The 20-year-old Welshman (21 by the time the 2025 Giro d'Italia arrives) is currently considered one of the great promises of world cycling. So far he has proven to be one of the best time trialists in the world. Despite his young age, Tarling has already been European time trial champion (2023), twice British champion (2023 and 2024), winner of the Chrono des Nations (2023) and bronze in the World Time Trial (2023).
His Grand Tour debut came earlier this year at the 2024 Vuelta a Espana. However, it didn't go completely to plan for Tarling as he missed out on the victory in the opening stage time trial and eventually abandoned ahead of stage 9. If the rumour of his presence at the Giro d'Italia is confirmed, the INEOS powerhouse will be hoping to fare a little better in his second Grand Tour.
