Derek Gee was once again the protagonist of a stage at O Gran Camino. After winning yesterday's uphill timetrial, the
Israel - Premier Tech rider hoped to double-down with a victory in O Cebreiro. That didn't quite work out but second place and even more comfortable position in GC is not too shabby, right?
I was really hoping to pull off the stage win for all the hard work they did," Gee said in post-stage reactions shared via team
social media. "But I just couldn't quite go solo on the climbs."
While Sergio Chumil was ultimately faster in the sprint, Gee doesn't have to be too sad because his overall lead grew again. "I'm glad we got some extra seconds before the gravel because it's unpredictable, but for the time being, Im feeling good."
Tomorrow's final stage to Santiago de Compostela is not the hardest profile-wise, but it still has potential to shake up the race standings. "It [Sunday's gravel stage] can go very well, it can also go poorly... but I'm confident that, with the team we have here and with how we've been riding that, we can bring it home."
