Illness takes another Giro d'Italia victim as Astana Qazaqstan Team's Vadim Pronskiy abandons

Illness has run rampant within the peloton at the 2024 Giro d'Italia with numerous riders being forced into withdrawal due to their symptoms.

Sadly, another rider has now been made to leave the race in Astana Qazaqstan Team's Vadim Pronskiy. "Vadim Pronskiy got ill and will not be able to continue competing in Giro d'Italia," announces the Astana Qazaqstan Team via their official social media pages.

The 25-year-old Kazakh initially came to the Giro d'Italia to work in the service of Alexey Lutsenko. Since his leader abandoned the race ahead of stage 9 however, Pronskiy has just been riding around with the peloton without really doing anything too notable.

In his last outing at the 2024 Giro d'Italia, Pronskiy placed 94th in the stage 14 individual time-trial, finishing 5:26 down on the eventual stage winner, Filippo Ganna. The former podium finisher at the Tour de Langkawi was sitting 56th overall at over an hour down in the general classification.
