Although Primoz Roglic made a mini-attack as he unsuccessfully tried to gain some bonus seconds at the intermediate sprint, it's fair to say that the Jumbo-Visma leader has been quiet so far. That could all change on stage 4 as the Giro d'Italia enters the mountains for the first time.
“If you have the legs, you can always try,” Roglic revealed in an interview with Cycling Pro Net before the start of the fourth stage. "But you have to be the best. Everything is going as planned. I must be patient and have faith. I have to do my best. At the end, the best wins. If I do my best, I will be happy.”
Currently sitting in third place overall, Roglic is 44 seconds down on the overall race leader Remco Evenepoel. With Soudal - Quick-Step reportedly hoping to give their team a rest and pass on the Maglia Rosa today does Roglic see the potential to cause a surprise? “That is not something I have to worry about,” he laughs. “We have to focus on ourselves, on our task, and get through the day as best we can.”
“But the longer the fight, the faster it goes and the shorter the ride. So there are also positive sides to it,” concludes the Slovenian.
