"I will probably go to the Giro d'Italia to help Remco Evenepoel" - Future teammate talks about Quick-Step's worst-kept secret

Questions over where Remco Evenepoel will ride in 2023, when it comes to the Grand Tours, have not yet been responded. Whilst the team will have it's presentation and goals reveal on the 6th of January, within the team the plans seem clear.

"I will start the season in San Juan and then I will probably go to the Giro d'Italia to help Remco Evenepoel, who wants to win the Italian Grand Tour after his victory in La Vuelta," Jan Hirt said in a recent interview. The Czech climber has signed with Quick-Step into 2023 and is likely on a specific support role for the Belgian, who has on occasions lacked the teammates to ride with him in the mountains.

With a big history at the Giro d'Italia, including a stage win and 6th place this year which was his best career performance, Hirt is being brought in to fill an important role, as the team looks to change it's sights into building a block around the Vuelta a Espana winner.

With both Giro d'Italia and Tour de France routes revealed, there is a majority of fans that believe he will target the Italian Grand Tour. This would follow the plan he has mentioned this year, and the Grand Boucle route features virtually no time-trialing kilometers where he could benefit from his specialty.
