Egan Bernal does not lose hope in the Vuelta a España 2025. In the first high mountain stage he was solid. He did not follow the attack of Giulio Ciccone and Jonas Vingegaard, but he was able to follow Joao Almeida's rhythm without problems and in the end all the favorites arrived together to the finish line, so he is still very close to the rest in the general classification. He entered the finish line 14th and is now 11th overall.
"I'm very happy to be back here, after a lot of effort and there is still a long way to go, I think I want to do a good race, enjoy it and show my family and those who have accompanied me over the years that the effort has been worth it," said Bernal once he entered the finish line in statements reported by
ESPN.
The gap to the new leader, Norwegian Torstein Traeen, is 2 minutes and 55 seconds, although among the favorites, Bernal is only 22 seconds behind Vingegaard. Almeida and Ciccone are 14 and 13 seconds respectively ahead of the Colombian. The stakes are high and we will see what he can continue to offer in the next mountain stages, especially in those that are a little harder.
"I've always said it, I don't know if I'm going to make it but at least I wake up every day thinking that I can be the best again, to get to the moon you have to aim for the sun, so I keep dreaming," he added making it clear that his ambitions for this year's Vuelta a España 2025 are big.
The seventh stage of the Spanish Grand Tour will be 188 kilometers between Andorra and Cerler Huesca La Magia, with yet another summit finish (12.1 km pass at 6%, somewhat harder than today's, preceded by another first and two second class passes).
