Giacomo Nizzolo had been struggling in 2023. The lack of results had been evident on the Italian who's struggling to keep up with the new wave of talent in the peloton, and absence from the Giro d'Italia seemed to be quite a bad indicator. However, the
Israel - Premier Tech rider bounced back to an impressive
Tro-Bro Léon win.
“Today was a very, very special race. I had to ride all day on the front, but the team worked to keep me in a good position until the race exploded with around seventy kilometers to go, and then there were only thirty of us," the veteran said in an press release issued by the team. "I was unlucky to get a puncture with thirty kilometers to go, so I had to make a big effort to get back, and then I was dropped in a decisive sector, but managed to come back again."
The Italian was a strong classics rider in his prime, and did not forget his ways around the treacherous races. Although the field was not luxurious he faced several World Tour riders in unfavourable terrain, and then at the end of the race he outsprinted Arnaud De Lie himself to take the win. This was his first win since the 2022 Vuelta Castilla y Léon and only his second triumph since joining the Israeli team.
