🇮🇹🇮🇹🇮🇹 It's Race Week!!! 🇮🇹🇮🇹🇮🇹 The #Giro kicks off on Saturday and this is how the Grenadiers will line up on the road to Rome 👊
After a very strong spring campaign, Filippo Ganna has taken some time off, and has prepared for the Giro d'Italia. He will aim for success both individually and collectively, as INEOS Grenadiers enter the race with high ambitions.
"I’m so happy to be back and starting at the Giro. Every time I race, I give my absolute maximum - so I’m looking forward to seeing what I can achieve for the team. I’m very proud of what I’ve achieved at this race in the past, and I’m feeling really positive," Ganna said in a press release issued by the team this morning. In his debut at the Corsa Rosa he won four stages, and in 2021 the following year he won another two. 2022 was a rather disappointing year for the now ex-World champion, but he has sprung back into fine form this year.
Ganna returns to the Giro after finishing second at Milano-Sanremo and sixth at Paris-Roubaix this spring, as he came close to his first monument win and showed his true potential. He also won the opening time-trial at Tirreno-Adriatico, a result he hopes to repeat here at the Corsa Rosa. "The opening time trial again offers me the opportunity to start in a very positive way for us all," he says, with two time-trials that suit him on stages 1 and 9 respectively.
"Our team is strong and I can’t wait to get out and show our very best... Preparations have gone well and I look forward to getting to Fossacesia Marina next Saturday. I obviously love racing in Italy in front of my home fans, and know the impact that the incredible support for me and the team has, so we hope to use that energy to give our very best," he concluded.
In addition to his own goals that he will be pursuing against the clock, Ganna hopes to play a pivotal support role for Tao Geoghegan Hart who shared leadership duties with the Italian in 2020 where he won the overall classification. Ganna will be protecting the Tour of the Alps winner and also Geraint Thomas most likely before the decisive days of the race begin in the second week.
