Wout van Aert and Tadej Pogacar were the protagonists of yesterday's stage, as the Belgian took the yellow jersey on a wild day with multiple breakaway attempt which eventually led to a day-long move which is a very rare sight for the leader of a race. Tadej Pogacar as so far looked unbeatable, and Jumbo-Visma are looking for ways to put him under pressure.
"We have to put the pressure on the Pogacar team and dare to attack early," van Aert told Vive Le Vélo. He explained the reasons behind the breakaway, in which he said that the team would be forced to chase if they were not a part of the group, but van Aert showed no remorse on missing out on the fight for the stage win: "I don't think I would ever have had the legs to sprint for the win. You also see who eventually wins today and it's hard to beat".
Eventually Tadej Pogacar was the one to take the glory, and the yellow jersey. Van Aert will now have less pressure due to the yellow jersey being replaced by green. As was the case yesterday though, Jumbo-Visma are eyeing the bigger picture which is where to find a crack in the Slovenian's apparent flawless armour.
The Belgian has an idea: "Pogacar has shown very few weaknesses so far. One weakness is very clear and that is that his team is certainly not super strong. We have to try to play on that." Sure enough, the most dangerous stages where Pogacar would need the team are behind, as now the race enters the mountains where the defending champion will have a better support crew but also less room to be surprised.
"Today [stage 6] we were able to put pressure on them, but then you see that other teams also lend a hand. That was a shame for us. We have to try to put the pressure on them and dare to attack early. hope we get more companions with us, because with three men you won't hurt them much of course," he pointed out.
