Many years ago,
BORA - hansgrohe tried to sign
Primoz Roglic before he had hit the World Tour ranks. Jumbo-Visma won that race at the time, and the Slovenian went on to build one of the most successful careers in modern cycling. Now, with the desire for sole leadership, the German team have eventually managed to sign Roglic.
“As a cyclist and Team Manager, patience is required. It is not always the first attack that leads to success, "
Ralph Denk said in a press release. This morning the manager of BORA - hansgrohe led a press conference where he announced the much-expected answer. "Eight years ago, Primož almost joined us as a neo-pro. Now he comes to us as a pro with a long list of victories that very few others have achieved." Now at 33 years of age, BORA have signed a new leader in a huge contract, with ambitions to take the collective to an even higher level.
Roglic is the winner of the Giro d'Italia this year, alongside other very notable races such as Tirreno-Adriatico, Volta a Catalunya and Giro dell'Emilia. By all standards a proven winner, he is also one of the very few who are able to match the likes of Tadej Pogacar, Jonas Vingegaard and Remco Evenepoel who have become the new benchmarks in stage-racing. Equally, he is one of the few riders able to match the young generations who are riding at a level superior to that of when he first joined Jumbo-Visma in 2016.
"For us, the decisive factor was not what has been achieved, but what lies ahead. Together we want to leave our mark on the big races," Denk assures, with the Tour de France being the prime objective. "Primož appreciates the strength of our squad and knows the great potential of his future teammates. I am convinced that his personality will inspire the entire team, because he is a leader with the will to win, and is also a team player at the same time. Most of all, however, he really loves what he does and for me, that is the key to success."
